The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Wednesday that the club has assigned defenceman Jake Gardiner to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
Gardiner, 22, appeared in two games for the Maple Leafs this season, registering four shots on goal. The defenceman missed the Leafs first two games of the season due to injury. Gardiner has registered 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) with eight penalty minutes in 23 games for the Marlies in 2012-13.
The Panthers will face the Lightning on Tuesday night in the first of five games this season between the two teams. The Panthers have dropped their last four games in regulation.
Florida has been hit by some key injuries, but forward Kris Versteeg is set to return to the lineup and make his season debut against the Lightning.
The Senators called up Mika Zibanejad on Monday, according to an ESPN.com report.
The teams' first selection, sixth overall, at the 2011 draft, was in Ottawa enjoying a few days off due to the AHL All-Star break when he received a call saying the Senators wanted him at practice.
