Former Sharks CEO Greg Jamison, the main suitor for the Coyotes, cannot produce the capital needed to purchase the team from the NHL and as a result a Jan. 31 deadline to maintain a critical lease agreement with the City of Glendale will pass without a deal being completed, multiple sources have told ESPN.com.

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Wednesday that the club has assigned defenceman Jake Gardiner to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

Gardiner, 22, appeared in two games for the Maple Leafs this season, registering four shots on goal. The defenceman missed the Leafs first two games of the season due to injury. Gardiner has registered 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) with eight penalty minutes in 23 games for the Marlies in 2012-13.

The Panthers will face the Lightning on Tuesday night in the first of five games this season between the two teams. The Panthers have dropped their last four games in regulation. 

Florida has been hit by some key injuries, but forward Kris Versteeg is set to return to the lineup and make his season debut against the Lightning.

The Senators called up Mika Zibanejad on Monday, according to an ESPN.com report.

The teams' first selection, sixth overall, at the 2011 draft, was in Ottawa enjoying a few days off due to the AHL All-Star break when he received a call saying the Senators wanted him at practice.

"I got the call this morning so it was nice," Zibanejad said. "It was a bit surprising since I was on the break, but I'm just happy to be here now."

The tentative deal between the Rangers and free agent Jason Arnott has been called off, a source confirmed.

Although the two sides agreed to terms on a one-year contract Saturday, the 38-year-old center was not cleared by Rangers team doctors, the source confirmed. 

The reason Arnott was not cleared is not immediately known.

The agent for suspended Islanders defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky says the player will report to the team by Feb. 11, according to an ESPN.com report. 

Neil Sheehy posted on his Twitter account Saturday night that Visnovsky would be back "no later than Feb 11th, possibly sooner."

Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty will miss three-to-four weeks after having an emergency appendectomy, according to an ESPN.com report on Saturday.

More than a generation after the "Miracle On Ice" game in the 1980 Winter Olympics, Mike Eruzione is parting with his iconic No. 21 USA jersey, hockey stick and other Olympic paraphernalia.

Eruzione's white jersey alone is expected to fetch more than $1M, but some experts think it could go considerably higher, according to an ESPN.com report on Friday. 

The NHL and NHL Players' Association have set this season's escrow rate at 10 percent, both sides confirmed to ESPN.com on Thursday.

That means players will fork over 10 percent of every paycheck into an escrow fund until both the league and NHLPA figure out the final numbers next summer or next fall in terms of hockey related revenue.

Avalanche forward Ryan O'Reilly, a restricted free agent, has left Russian team Metallurg Magnitogorsk after the player and KHL team mutually agreed to terminate his contract Thursday.

The news comes just hours after Steve Downie was ruled out for the season because of a knee injury that will require surgery.
